Philosophy

The job of a home inspector is more difficult than most people realize. Practical limitations are numerous and we acknowledge the limitations and realities of the job. However, we also believe that if we effectively manage client expectations and make every effort to conduct the most thorough inspection possible, then our service will excel.

Qualified, experienced inspectors are the backbone of our company and we want to work with the best professionals.  All of our inspectors have been assessed during actual inspections and have demonstrated their abilities first hand. We also check references and insurance coverage  so that our clients can be assured that they are hiring the best.

We believe that the best way to learn is collaboratively, from one another’s experience, and strive to offer a strong support network within our company. We constantly share information among our inspectors and strive to stay abreast of the latest issues in the industry. Continuing education is required and everyone is encouraged to communicate with each other.

We also believe in being properly equipped and using the right tools.  Some examples of essential tools required by our inspectors include:

Infrared camera, moisture meter, a ladder that measures a minimum of 23’.

Qualifications

Ideally, MHI inspectors will possess recognized accreditation in home inspection and preferably a working background in home construction.

Five years experience or a minimum of 1000 inspections is desired.

Level 1 certification in Infrared Thermography that meets ASNT standards is also required by all our inspectors. (Certification through ITC is available to inspectors within our organization)

Employment Opportunities

Mike Holmes Inspections uses both independent contract inspectors as well as full time employees. Independent inspectors will represent Mike Holmes Inspections while servicing our clients but can maintain their own business and identity for their clientele.

We recognize that there are different levels of experience and competency among inspectors. As a result, there are also opportunities for mentoring and development within the company to suitable candidates who may not be qualified to work for us right away. This is a great way to improve your skills and learn from others.
