Deck Inspection

PROTECT YOUR HOME. PROTECT YOUR FAMILY.

WHY IS DECK SAFETY IMPORTANT?

According to some experts, decks are among the most dangerous part of the home, if not the most dangerous. Too many tragic accidents, injuries — even deaths — have occurred due to decks not being properly checked for major safety issues. Luckily, many of these accidents can be avoided with a proper deck inspection, as well as keeping up with regular maintenance.

Every spring, before deck season begins, it's a good idea to inspect your deck for any red flags, such as corroded fasteners, loose connections, rotted wood, mould, cracks, etc. If your deck appears to have any number of these issues, it's important to bring in an expert who can check it out, make sure it's safe and if not, provide you with recommendations that can help make it right.

Don't become a statistic

If your deck is more than 5 years old, a deck inspection is highly recommended and should be followed up with an inspection every 3 years thereafter.

What to Expect

A MIKE HOLMES Deck Inspection examines the overall safety of the entire deck structure, including all major components (where accessibility is permitted).
This includes:
  • Footings
  • Posts, beams and joists
  • Connectors and fasteners
  • Ledger board
  • Railings (handrails and guardrails)
  • Stairs, stringers and treads
  • Deck boards
After completing the full assessment, our certified inspectors will:
  • List major safety concerns and structural deficiencies
  • Provide timelines on when deficiencies should be addressed
  • Recommend maintenance, upgrades or rebuild
