Thermal Imaging in Home Inspection
Despite what you might have seen on television or in movies, thermographic imaging cameras can’t see behind walls. Instead, they detect temperature variations related to heat and moisture along building surfaces.
These differences in surface temperature can indicate faults in various building systems, like the insulation of a home, the plumbing system or the electrical system.
The thermal imaging camera detects temperature differences shown as patterns on walls, ceilings and floors. These could be potential wet areas, air leakage, missing insulation or issues with wiring. It can indicate the presence of moisture that would not be visible during a home inspection without a thermal imaging camera. Findings like these could be an indication of previous water issues or a slow leak that should be further investigated.
