Drinking water contaminated with disease-causing bacteria and parasites can make you or your family seriously ill. Symptoms can range from stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhea, to vomiting and fever.
IS MY WATER SAFE TO DRINK?
The only way to tell if your Well water is safe is by having it tested. Harmful microbes can exist in surface and groundwater supplies, and can cause immediate and long term sickness if not properly treated.
It is recommended to test for general water quality every 2 years, and more often if you notice changes in taste, smell or color or in land uses or activities near your well. Frequent testing will help you to identify harmful microorganisms that can affect the health of you and your family and ensure that the treatment system is treating the water.
There are factors that increase the risk of contamination and so it is recommended that you sample your Well water in:
- early spring just after the thaw
- in the fall rainy season
- after a long dry spell or drought
- after heavy rains, floods
- after the well has not been used for a long period of time
